In the early 80's many of our shows used these tape loops in addition to live players. In some shows, we did not have our musicians with us and Mark would play these loops recorded onto answering machine cassettes of various lengths. Mark also had a Sony TC 760 reel to reel where many of the loops were created. this tape deck had sound on sound and echo so many effects could be added before being recorded onto the cassettes. Another instrument in the collection was a Steiner Parker Synthacon. Several of these loops are just jams on the Steiner recorded onto cassette or reel to reel. Some of these tapes had vocal snippets that Johanna recorded, some had sound effects from various sources such as a Blow Up doll talk box, and some had Brock playing drum patterns that Mark had recorded at Brock's rehearsal room with a mono cassette recorder. The loops called Metal Clanks were sounds from SRL shows created by Matt Heckert, that Mark rearranged and recorded to the loop cassettes. The loop cassettes were recorded onto until they started to repeat, so the loops were never exact loops, they overlapped and cut off in strange places. The loops were played back by using multiple cassette players hooked up to a mixer, dub style: move the faders up and down to combine loops. It was all very random.
Side A is a collection of the loops.
Side B is one long remix using these loops along with more modern effects.
